If you were a fighter back in ancient Rome, you most likely would have carried the Roman Arena Shield, also known as a scutum. Originally developed by the Italic people, this design was adopted by the Romans. Modeled after the traditional design, this piece features Poplar wood construction and is accented by a brass boss and riveted brass edging. The back side is comprised of strips of wood and a horizontal wooden grip. Though this shield is smaller in size and weighs less than the standard scutum, it will be great for costumes, media productions, and re-enactments.
